Assistant Track Director: Anna Puerta
Multiverse gets better and better with each passing year, and I would be remiss not to mention the unique camaraderie which is intrinsic to the MEET track! This program is dedicated to bonding over various topics, encouraging interactions between all who are present throughout the hour. This deviates from the traditional panel structure where attendees listen to Guest Speakers, with a Q&A session at the end.
In order to respect the anonymous nature of this track, I will not be mentioning any names or comments of other attendees (with the exception of our wonderful Guest Speaker, Wanda Harward, who did a phenomenal job in her presentation!) Rather, I will be documenting my own experience, and highly recommend that if you’re reading this, you ought to give Multiverse Con and the MEET track a shot. Check out Multiverse 2025, and future years to come – we’d love to see you! ♥
One of the things I really loved about Wanda was that she first determined what our collective level of understanding was regarding tarot cards. Once she figured that we were past the beginning stages, she skipped her initial lesson and jumped right into advanced content. I was very thrilled with this decision, excited to get more in-depth knowledge from someone who was an expert in the field.
When you perform a reading, there is an exchange of energy between the fortune teller (or psychic) and the client. Because of this, it’s important that we (as psychics) regularly practice cleansing methods before and after card readings. You can use crystals to help with this, such as obsidian or turquoise, which both carry protective qualities, and dispel negative energy. Another method you can use is shaking the energy off of your cards. In order to do so, hold your deck together (vertically), and tap the cards on the table several times. Other techniques involve grounding spells or mental exercises, and sage smudging.
Sometimes you will receive questions from clients that are either vague, or perhaps not entirely helpful to the client. In situations like these, it is good practice to clarify the question. For example:
– “Is my ex coming back?”
vs.
– “What do I need to do to draw my ex back into my life, and is that in my best interest?”
It’s also important to note that not every reading requires a Celtic Cross or in-depth spread. Sometimes, that will overcomplicate a simpler situation, and many times a basic 3-Card spread is actually more helpful to the querent. If you start with a 3-Card spread, that does not mean you can’t draw additional cards for further detail, as needed.
Often times, people will ask about timing, such as: “How long will it take before I’m promoted at my job?” A useful method for this utilizes a 1-Card reading, and references the number on the card along with the suit that determines the unit of time. For example:
Wands = Days
Swords = Weeks
Cups = Months
Pentacles = Years
Therefore, drawing the 6 of Swords would mean the client should be promoted in 6 weeks, as long as they continue with supporting action that will help this path manifest in their life. If a Royal is drawn (one of the Pages, Knights, Queens, or Kings) then the result is contingent on networking with other people of those qualities. If a Major Arcana is drawn, then the result is based on a significant life event happening first. For example: If the Emperor is drawn, then someone must make a decision prior to any resulting effects.
Keep it simple. Tarot is a book in the form of cards. It tells a story. Pick up a deck and look through it. If you can see a story, it’s the right deck. If not, then it is not.
When it comes to deciding whether you will read cards upright and reversed, it’s important to note that you don’t have to read reversed cards. It is a decision up to every individual psychic. Here is one general method for interpretation:
Upright = externally focused, in balance, not blocked
Reversed = internally focused, out of balance, blocked
There is a particularly interesting strategy for writers who are dealing with “writer’s block.” Use a 3-Card spread, and look at the story being told between the cards.
During Readings, you want to avoid over-analyzing. Usually, the first impression is more accurate, especially when reading for yourself. However, many practitioners typically avoid reading for themselves, and seek counsel from other psychics who are unbiased on the matters being queried.
A personal rule that is considered “good practice” is to always have consent when reading on behalf of other parties (other than the querent.) For example, if a spouse wants to know if their partner is cheating on them, an appropriate response would be: “Unfortunately, I cannot do that. However, I can do a reading about the health of your relationship, and how to improve it.”
Asking “how” is much better than asking “if” or “when?” Make sure that you stay on topic to the original question during the reading. Any context given from the querent is helpful.
Avoid medical or legal questions. That will get you sued in some states. Also, be cautious when asking general “yes or no” questions. Many psychics are often approached by a couple, and the question: “Are they the one?” is presented. This can be especially challenging, so rephrasing the question will significantly help. “What do we need to focus on to make this relationship work?” removes the burden of expectations and stress from both you and the querents involved.
