DiviniTea: Tea and Tarot – Multiverse Con!

Posted on January 11, 2023March 21, 2024 by Ionessa Wynn

“MEET” Track Director: Gigi Eng

While I’ve been an avid attendee of the Multiverse Convention since its inception in 2019, this was my first experience in going to the “MEET” track – and I must say, I was not disappointed! This is a program dedicated to (as its name suggests) meeting new people and bonding over various topics in a more communal sense, where everyone is able to interact with each other – rather than the traditional panel where attendees listen to the Guest Speakers.

In order to respect people’s privacy and the anonymous nature of gathering in this safe space environment, I will not be mentioning any names of visitors or Guests (with the exception of lovely Gigi, who is the WONDERFUL Director of this track ♥). Rather, I will be documenting my own experience, since it was so delightful, and I highly encourage people to give this Program Track a shot, if they should decide to attend Multiverse in October 2023! (Please do! It’s such a fun and wholesome environment, and we’d LOVE to have you! The more, the merrier!)

The introduction of this panel involved Tarot Cards, and how they are used as a divination system – hence the clever play on words for the title of the track! It was amazing how packed the room was, and clearly there was massive interest for the topic at hand – not only were there no chairs left over, but everyone was crowded shoulder-to-shoulder. Practitioners opened up and revealed their decks, showcasing the art and offering to perform fortune telling Readings for those who were interested in divining their future. It was so fun to see curious people asking various questions, ranging from simple to complex.

The next experience involved Tea Leaf Readings – something I was highly interested in, since I had never experienced this before, and wanted to learn more about the process of how it is accomplished. I had a lovely guide who brought multiple tea sets, explaining that Oolong Tea is a generally reliable loose-leaf tea to experiment with. She further explained that you could add sugar to your tea, but that Readings tend to be more accurate if there is only the hot water and tea alone. Patiently, she guided us through the experience, implementing strainers to prevent us from accidentally drinking the leaves, showing us how much water we should leave in the cups before flipping them upside down on our saucers. Focusing on our questions at hand before turning the cup back over and observing the shapes within.

I instantly recognized my symbol as a hummingbird. Our guide brought a handbook with her, to look up the dictionary of different symbols, and though she found “bird” – a hummingbird specifically was missing from the catalogue (which is totally fine!) She encouraged me to focus on what a hummingbird represents to me personally, and perhaps to do more research online – and I did so with fascinated enthusiasm!

The hummingbird was a symbol that emphasized cheerfulness and grace, while working quickly to accomplish one’s goals – something I very much needed to hear, and implement going forward with the New Year of 2023! From early 2022 until now, I’ve taken a very serious look at my life, and what I’ve wanted to accomplish in moving forward. Attending the Multiverse Convention in October and hearing this was a resounding encouragement to move forward with these plans, and I have been extremely grateful and delighted by this experience!

As such, one of the plans I have going forward will obviously be improving The Raven’s Quarter website. There may be some restructuring going forward, but there will be more consistency in the posts, and sharing with the community! ♥

As such, I am open to feedback, so if you have any questions or suggestions for what you would like to see more of in the future, or how the site can be improved, feel free to let me know! Your thoughts are always appreciated in the Comments Section below, or feel free to email me directly at ionessawynn@theravensquarter.com ♥

Hopefully, I will “MEET” more of you with the anticipated many years to come at Multiverse! And once more, I’d love to give a shout-out to the wonderful Gigi! She was such a delight to be around with an incredibly unique personality, and fostered such an amazing environment of openness and community! 10/10 will absolutely visit this track again in the future!
